Serial Number 832

This Thompson gun sits in an Irish Army Regimental Museum.

It was found in the floor of a water well where it had been abandoned after the

Irish Civil War ended in 1923.

The side which was lying in damp shows sign of obvious corrosion.

Serial number 832 was shipped on date 7th June 1921 and was consigned to

American Railway Express Company of New York.

This gun was part of the East Side shipment which was seized by the US

authorities in June 1921 but after years of legal wrangling was released to its

“rightful owners” in 1925.

The “rightful owners” were the IRA through their agents in the US.

This gun with most of the others then found their way to Ireland for use by the IRA

right up to the 1980’s.
